One year ago today, Google revealed Bard, their AI-powered competitor to ChatGPT. Bard was running on the LaMDA model, but in December, Google moved to Gemini. The name of the model that powers the service will now be adopted by it. Bard, goodbye. Greetings, Gemini.

The Gemini Pro 1.0 model currently powers Gemini. It speaks more than 40 languages and is accessible in more than 230 countries. You can use the new Gemini app or the web interface (click this link to access it). It's a chatbot that you may converse with via voice or text. But since Gemini is "multi-modal," you may also ask it to create an image or provide it with a photo as input.

Gemini, Google's no-cost solution, has now evolved into its tier-2 version. Today marks the introduction of Gemini Advanced, enhanced by Gemini Ultra 1.0. Post a complimentary 2-month trial, accessing Advanced requires a subscription priced at $20/€22/£19/₹1,950, inclusive of the Google One AI Premium Plan, offering 2TB of storage and additional Google One Premium perks (ordinarily valued at $10).

Shortly, Google plans to integrate Gemini into Gmail, Google Docs, and other services, initially referred to as "Duet AI." The availability of Gemini Advanced spans 150+ countries as of today, albeit exclusively in English, with plans for expansion in the future. For convenient access, the Gemini app can be downloaded on Android and iOS, and seamlessly integrated into the Google app.

Gemini is taking the place of Google Assistant on Android. Saying "Hey Google" hitting the power button, or any other method you choose is how you turn it on. You can ask it to write a caption for a picture or to summarize an article you are now reading. Gemini will still support the previous voice control functionalities, such as making calls, scheduling timers, and managing smart home appliances.
