Following the US trade ban placed on the brand back in May 2019, the Mate 60 series of smartphones made their debut in China in August and September. Notably, they were the first Huawei phones to employ the in-house Kirin chipset. With the Mate 60 series, Huawei saw a remarkable comeback, with sales rising by 83 percent in October. With this outstanding performance, Huawei established itself as a serious rival to the iPhone 15 series, which made its debut around the same time. On the other hand, sales of the iPhone 15 series increased by an even more modest 11%. As per the Chinese leaker Smart Pikachu, Huawei is preparing to take back the top spot in the Chinese market this year by presenting the Mate 70 series as a strong rival to the impending iPhone 16 series.

As per the insider information, the upcoming Huawei Mate 70 is poised to mark a resurgence for Huawei in the mobile phone industry, positioning itself as a formidable competitor against the anticipated iPhone 16, slated for a September debut this year. The company is currently deeply immersed in extensive preparations to ensure the success of this device, with planned shipment volumes exceeding those of the previous generation, including the "Extraordinary Master" variant, likely referring to the RS Ultimate model.

Following a strategy similar to the one employed for the Mate 60 series, Huawei will heavily rely on domestic production and self-development for the Mate 70 series. The hybrid camera system is set to feature a novel one-inch primary camera and a wide aperture with enhanced light processing.

The Mate 70 series will have a quadruple micro-curved display. The Mate 70 portfolio will have several versions with small and large screen sizes, similar to the iPhone 16 series. Huawei intends to smoothly integrate its proprietary Harmony OS with AI functions, pitching the device as a versatile business-oriented tool.
